« We protect and restore coral reefs through science, education and art, to inspire a sustainable future. »

Who are we?

Born in 2024, and placed under the support of the CNRS Foundation, Science4Reefs Foundation contributes to the knowledge, awareness and preservation of coral reefs. The Science4Reefs foundation is recognized as being of public utility. It is independent and is not subsidized by any political party. Its resources are public and private. The support of companies and individuals also contributes to the development of its activities.  Since its establishment in Moorea, in the French Polynesia, the Science4Reefs foundation focus primarly around three major axes:

  • The Science4Reefs foundation aims to become an incubator of solutions for reefs aimed at promoting effective solutions to be deployed on a large scale to limit the decline of reefs. The Science4Reefs Foundation promotes the spirit of innovation and discovery. It encourages young talents in this process of testing new ideas likely to contribute to the preservation of coral biodiversity, notably through the creation of an annual prize.

  • The Science4Reefs Foundation intends to work towards a better understanding by the general public of scientific knowledge and actions initiated on coral reefs. By mobilizing new forms of mediation, such as art and education, the foundation supports the creation of tools and bold works, vectors of a message carrying curiosity, questioning and discovery, promoting the dissemination of scientific knowledge.

  • The foundation aspires to take an active part in the intellectual debate, by formulating innovative proposals and recommendations addressed to political, economic and social actors, both public and private. In order to resolve the asymmetry of information and possible misunderstandings between the world of research and that of decision-makers, the foundation is a privileged interlocutor for public and private actors, all facing the challenge of preserving sensitive ecosystems. Thus, resolutely engaged in society, the foundation wants to be a real interface between seemingly contradictory dynamics, and thus participates in taking into account coral biodiversity in all fields of human action.

Motu Fareone, MOOREA

In a unique setting a few meters from the reef ridge, come to life transformative research, original encounters, and a daring dissemination of science.

A living place of exchange

Each year, thematic workshops, training and immersive experiences on the reef will be given in this unique place to create links between the different actors of society and ensure that scientific knowledge is transmitted and understood clearly to all stakeholders.

A place of experimentation

This unique place aims to promote new research on reefs, in particular to be an incubator of solutions for reefs.
